Generated images are stored locally on users’ devices, with C2PA-compliant metadata for verification. The public directive marks a response as eligiblefor storage in shared caches. The must-revalidate directive allows caches to servethe response while fresh. After the hour elapses, caches treat theresponse as stale and either revalidate or fetch anew copy depending on other directives present.

By May 2012, the search engine was attracting 1.5 million searches a day. We invested in it because there is a need for a private search engine. In July 2010, Weinberg started a DuckDuckGo community website (duck.co) to allow the public to report problems, discuss means of spreading the use of the search engine, request features, and discuss open sourcing the code.

Why is Google now performing my searches and not DuckDuckGo?

In 2012, in response to accusations that it was a monopoly, Google identified DuckDuckGo as a competitor. The bare-bones approach cited in his quote has since changed; for instance, in 2014 DuckDuckGo added auto-completion, images, weather and more. As for the quality, I’m not saying that Weinberg has figured out a way to return more relevant results than Google’s mighty search team. It just offers core Web search—mostly the “ten blue links” approach that’s still really useful, no matter what its critics say … Just as In-N-Out doesn’t have lattes or Asian salads or sundaes or scrambled eggs, DDG doesn’t try to do news or blogs or books or images.

Use private, no-cache for authenticated content

For example, use a shorter duration for a news homepage (possibly 5-15 minutes) and a longer duration for static assets like images or JavaScript libraries – possibly days, weeks, or even a year. After this time, the browser will request a new copy from the server. This is particularly important for content delivered after authentication.

Oh, and our browser is free — we make money from privacy-respecting search ads, not by exploiting your data. Our built-in search engine is like Google but never tracks 4rabit your searches. Since version 6.0.6, Tor Browser has used DuckDuckGo as its default search engine. Rather than operating its own search index, Startpage retrieves Google results and delivers them without tracking your activity, acting as a privacy layer on top of Google’s search technology. It carries the same tracker-blocking capabilities as the mobile app and uses DuckDuckGo as its default search engine.

DuckDuckGo protects your privacy online without surveillance, data monitoring, or personalized ads. For anyone concerned about how much of their data ends up with advertisers and data brokers, DuckDuckGo addresses those concerns directly. DuckDuckGo gives people a way to browse the internet without being subjected to data collection, ad targeting, or website tracking.
